We’re continuing our video series “A Chat with Matt” where we talk to Matt Peterson, content training specialist at Infusionsoft, to share creative marketing ideas to help you and your business succeed.
Last week Matt Peterson and I talked about the basics when it comes to starting a newsletter. This week we decided to chat about the the benefits of communicating automatically.
Many of us carry our cell phones everywhere, but that doesn’t always mean that we’ll be answering all the calls that come in. So Peterson says, we can adapt to how your customers and prospects best communicate by changing our methods of communication.
“Everybody is so busy, maybe they’re at little league games, maybe they’re shopping or in a meeting; they don’t have time to answer their phone so, what if we could automate the follow up?” says Peterson.
If you can allow some of your customers to get back to you instead of you contacting them, they may be able to set some time aside and not get overwhlemed with phone calls. Peterson says that often times it’s best to leave a message and say “feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience” with a brief description of why you called. You can also send an email to give them the option of communicating that way.
“We’re taking the phone communication that didn’t work- we tried it once- and moving that over to email because that may be something that somebody can respond to without having to actually get on the phone,” says Peterson.
“If we use an auto-responder for example, we can set up a sequence, a simple sequence of three emails that we can trigger when we get somebody’s voice message.”
By using an auto-responder you can arrange for email follow ups to take place a few days after that initial email gets sent out. Peterson says you can be as personal as possible with these emails and let them work automatically.
- Make the emails very easy to read and not as fancy. This will let people know you didn’t just send a “template” email message.
